In 2006 Nick was accepted into Gonzaga School of Law on a merit scholarship. While at Gonzaga he clerked for the Honorable Michael P. Price and completed an internship with the Alaska Department of Law. Nick prosecuted traffic and misdemeanor cases in Fairbanks Alaska. While attending Gonzaga Nick was given an honorable discharge from the National Guard as a Staff Sergeant. He separated from the military to focus on his legal career.

After graduation from Gonzaga, Nick took and passed the Colorado bar examination in 2009. In January of 2010 he moved to the island of Kauai. For seven and a half years Nick conducted and completed jury trials from petty trespass to murder in the first degree.

In 2017 Nick left the district attorney’s office and formed a partnership with Joseph J. Petrone. Nick and Joe hope to offer their years of public service to individuals in the Northern Colorado community.

In his spare time Nick enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. Their love is camping and they hope to visit all of the 53 National Parks by the time his children graduate high school.

Joseph Petrone

JOSEPH J. PETRONE

Attorney

Joe was born in Wyoming, but spent much of his childhood in southeast Asia where he graduated from Jakarta International School in Indonesia. He then moved to Fort Collins to attend Colorado State University. After graduating, he moved back to his

home state for law school where he graduated from the University of Wyoming College of Law. Joe was the Director of the Defender Aid Program in law school and defended indigent clients throughout the state, practicing in both trial and appellate cases and even arguing before the Wyoming Supreme Court.

Although his Wyoming roots run deep, Mr. Petrone was eager to return to Fort Collins to continue his legal career. He spent the next ten years at the Larimer County District Attorney’s Office where he cultivated extensive trial practice and courtroom experience. He’s handled thousands of criminal cases spanning from the lowest petty offense to the most complex crimes in our system. In 2017 he and Nick formed the Law Firm of Cummings & Petrone, LLC in 2017.

Joe has extensive knowledge in the area of criminal law and has personally handled cases involving all levels of traffic, misdemeanor, and felony charges. He knows the importance of having a skilled trial attorney help you navigate the legal process. His experience as a prosecutor and familiarity with the law enforcement agencies in Northern Colorado give him unique insight when negotiating cases. Often times, cases can be settled favorably without having to go through a trial, but Joe is well equipped to take a case to trial in order to achieve the best results for his clients.

In his spare time, Joe enjoys spending time with his family, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a good book, and like all Colorado residents, anything outdoors.
